The principal of AYNI is central to the spiritual practices of the Andes. Ayni means reciprocity; Harmonious Exchange or the exchange of spiritual energy to feed and maintain balance and harmony with self, community and the land. Ayni is not unlike the Native American term, “Giveaway”. The belief that we do not take something without giving something in return. Sacrifice and giveaway are a part of being in right relationship with the Spirits, which, in turn, supports our spiritual practice.

Join us for a delightful opportunity to study with Adolfo and learn a broad range sacred offerings that are commonly used to support daily life in the Peruvian Andes. In Peru, despachos (sacred mandala offerings) are traditionally offered for a wide range of different purposes, such as: Fertility for the land and good crops, harmony and balance in one’s life, protection, health and wellness, and many other blessings and prayers. Adolfo will share with us stories and lore of different types of despachos, then teach us how to construct several useful types of despachos with detailed demonstrations so we can create them ourselves. These will include 1. A healing despacho, 2. An Ayni despacho and 3. A Collective despacho that can be used for different purposes. Within each despacho are different levels and functions that will be described as well. In this class we will learn; the symbolic meanings of the different ingredients and how to adapt them with what is available here. How the order, design and assembly create different levels and functions, and when to burn a despacho, bury a despacho or offer the despacho to a natural body of water depending on its purpose.

In Addition, we will learn about making apachetas (stone cairns) and willka apachetas (constructed offerings that include tree branches and flowers) at sacred sites to enhance communion and support from the spirits of place.
Since our class spans over Earth Day (April 22nd) we will take a field trip to a nearby group of effigy mounds and make our own individual K’intu Misa offerings for the Pachamama (Mother Earth) at this spectacular sacred site which is over 1000 years old.
With Adolfo’s expert guidance, this class will enrich your ability to make mindful and sacred offerings for many different purposes. This is a rare opportunity to work with an indigenous Altomisayoq from Peru and have a lot of fun too!
